Hamza Musse is concluding his senior year at Highland Park High School in Saint Paul, MN. Hamza is the fourth child in a family of eight siblings, the eldest being 21 years old and the youngest four. Hamza is part of Highland Park’s Thespian Society, Prizm Literary Magazine, Yearbook Committee, Newspaper, and plays soccer, basketball, and runs track
Volunteerism, as it was a strong value in the Musse family, naturally became Hamza’s hobby. It was during his junior year in high school when Hamza’s passion for service-learning was kindled by an organization called STLF (Students Today Leaders Forever)—and since then, he’s been hooked!
Before STLF, Hamza had never left the Greater Twin-Cities area, but in the past year has gone on three Pay it Forward tours (STLF’s trademark five-day service road trips) as well as a two-week service-learning tour of Peru. In the summer of 2011, the organization Education First selected 20 kids from around the country to volunteer and learn social-science in Peru. The trip was called the Global Citizen tour, and it was then that Hamza decided that he would pursue an education that would combine his passion for service with his love for travelling.
It was by sheer luck that Hamza stumbled upon the State Farm Youth Advisory Board. This is a golden opportunity to gain valuable experience and leadership skills. It will undoubtedly be a humbling and gratifying experience
