As a high school student in Carlsbad, New Mexico, Kaitlyn had numerous opportunities to develop her aspiration of making a positive difference in the lives of others.  While serving as the Senior Class President, member of the National Honor Society, member of the Superintendant’s Advisory Council, and as a D.A.R.E. and Character Counts Role Model, she participated in countless activities which aided people in need.  Kaitlyn also organized and implemented her own community service project called Books R.O.C.K. (Books Reaching Our Community’s Kids).  Through this ongoing project, Kaitlyn and area volunteers have been able to collect and distribute over 6,000 books to underprivileged youth in their community.

In addition to her dedication to her school and community, Kaitlyn has had the privilege of representing her home state in numerous national venues.  She has represented the great state of New Mexico in: the 2010 Voice of Democracy Essay Contest, the 2010 Prudential Spirit of Community Awards, as a 2010 Girls Nation Delegate, and in the 2011 American Legion Oratorical Contest.  These unique opportunities have helped open her eyes to important issues and ideals throughout the United States.

Kaitlyn is currently a freshman at Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas.  During her first semester, she worked as a Fund Raising Specialist and collected over $15,000 for the university.  Kaitlyn’s goal is to earn a degree in advertising and pursue a career in advertising for nonprofit and humanitarian organizations.
