Linden High School
Disaster Preparedness
Northeast Zone
(Choose different project.)

Linden High School’s service-learning project will be to mobilize youth action through the creation of an HIV/AIDS Y-RISE PROGRAM. Students will be partnering with local AIDS service organizations for HIV/AIDS peer education training. Materials created by the NYLC Y-RISE program will be used as we partner and receive training from local community based organizations. Approximately 10 students will serve on a leadership team. In addition, a biology teacher will use a class of approximately 20 students to participate in the project. The leadership team and biology students will be trained and then work through the health classes to educate the high school population.

Project participants will take what they have learned and create brochures, posters and pamphlets that will be displayed and disseminated throughout the local community. Student leaders will create skits and role play, to educate the high school community about the epidemic of HIV in the urban communities.

Guest speakers from partner agencies will be brought in to address; the dangers of risky behaviors, self-esteem and self worth, overcoming obstacles, and the importance of setting and working towards positive goals.
