HITT is a theatre-based service-learning program of the Hippodrome State Theatre. In partnership with the School Board of Alachua County, the HITT classroom curriculum assists youth in exploring the critical issues that affect their lives. HITT provides the resources of professional Theatre Specialists to support youth in creating their own quality service-learning projects that address these issues. In the classroom, students will partner with Prevention Specialists to discuss the effects of substance abuse on their peers and their community. Projects will be initiated and designed entirely by youth with the guidance of the Theatre Specialists. Students will also learn to produce, schedule, and market their performances. Students will then take their performances on tour. Following each performance they will participate in a 'HITT JAM' that brings students from all four schools together to present their projects to teachers, peers and VIPs.
